Great music.
Real connection.

Andy Gilbert is a highly experienced musical director, songwriter, producer and vocal leader.

His work spans choirs, vocal groups, artist development, songwriting, production, education and community music—but the thread running through all of it is people.

Andy creates spaces where singers can collaborate, express themselves and grow in confidence. At SLYMI, that means bringing the standards and possibilities of the professional music world into the room without making the experience feel intimidating.

Behind the sound

Producer.
Arranger.
Musician.

Andy’s experience shapes every SLYMI arrangement, rehearsal, recording session and live performance.

A life in music

Artist first.
Then everything else.

Earlier in his career, Andy was signed as an artist to Richard Branson’s V2 Records. He later moved into songwriting, production and artist development, building a career that has crossed genres, countries and different areas of the music industry.

His work has achieved releases and chart success across the UK, Europe, the USA and Asia, including projects with multi-platinum artists TWICE, BoA, Jane Zhang, JW and KAT-TUN.

Two artists Andy helped to develop—JAXXON and A*M*E—have gone on to receive Grammy nominations and build successful careers of their own.

Talent development

Opening doors
through music.

Alongside his industry work, Andy has built a strong reputation in music education and creative consultancy.

As Musician in Residence at Sedgehill Academy, Hurstmere School and Ark Acton, he created bespoke record labels, choirs and talent-development programmes—mentoring students through songwriting, recording and live performance.

Students from these projects have won national competitions, appeared on ITV News and performed at Buckingham Palace, the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Festival Hall.

Many former students now work throughout the music industry as artists, musicians, producers, writers and business professionals.

His belief
“Bringing people together through music is powerful.”

That belief sits at the heart of SLYMI.

What this means at SLYMI

Professional possibilities.
No pressure.

You might arrive having never sung in a choir. You could find yourself learning a bespoke arrangement, recording at RAK Studios or performing at a sold-out SLYMI gig.

Andy’s job is to make every step feel achievable: clear teaching, plenty of encouragement, serious attention to the sound—and no unnecessary choir jargon.
